Mona Lisa larger than life

The real Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris suprises a lot of people at its size as it is a bit on the small side. For those of you who want to see the large version, you have to come to the Gold Coast.

This sign is at an entrance to an Industrial Estate just off the highway. I presume it is this big to grab the attention of the highway drivers giving them time to use the off ramp and visit.

The Shellpins Story

The Shellpin is a mythical creature that dwells along the ocean edge of Surfers Paradise. They are a small gentle people with shell hats and a playful sense of whimsy.

As custodians of the ocean edge, Shellpins play an important role in reconnecting people to the natural seaside environment. Their messages are communicated through their mysterious stories of fun and adventure.

The emergence of the Shellpin legend has been linked to the rumoured discovery of an old chest. This chest was apparently unearthed during the excavation of foundations on a building site in Surfers Paradise during the late 1980's.

Pride of Sea World

One of the Polar Bears going for a dive.

Polar Bear Shores is based on an Arctic summer and therefore bears in the wild would experience this type of habitat. Within the exhibit is natural looking rock work, a rock platform where the bears can see outside, various trees, shrubs and logs and a digging pit with changing substrates.

There is a main salt water pool, with a depth varying from 1-4 meters and a water temperature ranging from 7-21 degrees. Over the back of the exhibit is two waterfalls that lead into fresh water creeks and pools. Inset into the rock walls are five movie set fans that can reach speeds of up to 25km/hr. Also set into the rock work are rain and mist generators

Gold Coast Mountains

I don't know the name of these mountains, but they do show a nice layered effect. This was taken from the Q1.

Answering a question from a while ago about the effects of Lighning strikes on the Gold Coast. I didn't find anything on that topic, but in regards to the Q1 building, it has a large lightning rod on the top that protects it and can be quite spectacular when lighning hits it (no damage to the building).
